Just a few training highlights from the week.

Close grip bench - 5 x 5 - all reps paused with 350

Deadlift: Belt-less triple with 606. While not awful it was supposed to be a set of 5. But rooting my right leg right now is really causing some major patella tracking/tendinitis issues that I’ve got to figure out and WILL figure out.

As some may have seen things Have been a bit busy lately as we’re trying to get the new @strong_barbell_club ready to open and I’ve neglected some of my own training and recovering modalities.

While i think it’s had a small effect on my knee. I think it’s an issue that dates further back that i really need to address. Gonna double up on my efforts to see @kcnorthsjc and get some things done as well as try to talk to Aaron at @squat_university about how to properly address and rehab this issue.

While this may be something that’s is frustrating to me. It’s also a good opportunity to learn and remind myself of the things that are important to keep me lifting how i want.

These obstacles and overcoming them will make me stronger, more effective and more successful of the course of my life as both a lifter and a coach.

This is why you CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT listen to what people outside of your circle have to say about you, good or bad. They will praise you when you’re up, tear you down when you’re at your low, shoot, they’ll even doubt you when you’re on your climb back up and then after all that once you do succeed they will pat you on the back and say you sure did prove them wrong, and that they’ve  always believed in you. Yea right. Stop seeking for attention and approval from fair weather fans. instead, work your ass off, stay steadfast in your own purpose and path, use the pain as fuel, use the love as fuel to fulfill your potential! You know what you’re capable of. We will make mistakes and we will triumph but Do not dwell on it either way because it is all fleeting. Just be happy, love the ones you’re with (keep good ones around you) learn from your past and try your best all the time. That’s what life is all about. Rinse and repeat when needed. that smile at the end is forever my mood btw.

Just needed some time to myself today to work on, diagnose and play with my squat today without other distractions around.

Thanks to words from @bagelboiii__ @jaffestrength and some videos by @smashwerx today i was able to warm up and take the first squat with no pain in my right knee since before the Arnold and it felt fuxking amazing. I loved my whole session today

Worked up to what was supposed to be a paused single with about 90% of my perceived max.

Worked up to 545 which flew and then jumped to 565 and called it there. Moved but not fast enough to go up at all. Lots of good to take away from today. Means my raw squat hasn’t fallen off as much as I’d feared (i should be able to muscle up around 600 without a pause) i figured out how to squat pain free again, what some of the triggers are etc. looking forward to pushing this as i continue to take care of my knee.

Did close grips to a 2 board with 264lbs, 2 sets x 25 and 22 reps, respectively.

I wasn’t happy with my first squat session today, on plan was a beltless double to a box with the SSB...but being as we’re moving and opening the best god damn gym in Kansas City;  ran for lifters by lifters, things were a bit awry today and i couldn’t do that as planned.

I did squat a single, with a belt, to a soft foam box on the buffalo bar with 80 in chain. I hit 495, not good. Wasn’t happy.

Went home, took a nap and drank a big shake and went BACK to the gym to do what i was supposed to and what was l going to make me happy. Was this smart, dunno, did it make me feel better, yes, did i train hard and enjoy it, yes, did i get better, yes. Was it based in some new found scientific study that i try to warp as a reason to train easier. Hell no.

There i worked up to a 440 belt less double on the ssb, did my accessory work and left pretty damn happy.

Not good work or bad work. Just work that shows some things that need to be addressed (ankle mobility and knees in relation to feet and that tracking pattern) need to keep feet straighter.

Im not very happy with this today. That’s on me. I run my life and my training, if you feel yours going off course, make a change. Never feel obligated to stay because they’re a nice person. It’s your time, results and hard work on the fuckin line. Make sure what you’re doing is in your best interest and not theirs.

Training is going well. Training at or eclipsing meet prep numbers by a few pounds on each lift. Time to ratchet up the overall intensity a bit. Had a nice reload phase.

Still getting my groove back with sleeves but they’re looking better and better and I’m fucking up less each week. I did good with head drop etc which I’ve been absent minded of in weeks prior.

You’ll notice some knee cave in the first DL rep. My foot just wasn’t in a good place so i had to adjust a bit and root better to get some glutes working and stabilize that leg. All is good there.

Also tested out the @mbslingshot Gangsta sleeves today. They felt great and did a good job of providing compression and warmth to my knees. I will be using them over the next few weeks to see how they hold up. But a FAR superior training sleeve compared to the STrong sleeves at first try.
