Let's sound it out – Seh-mee-yon.
A wine with two faces? A wine that varies in characteristics depending on the age. A wine that is often overlooked. But not at Walk the Wine!
Calling its homeland to the South West region of France, The Semillon variety is known for its incredible ability to age. When young the wine can displays characteristics of being crisps with citrus-driven notes. With age though, the wine takes an opposite turn and delivers desirable toasted flavors complete with vanilla and subtle honey. An overall complex wine for every individual taste.
Leaving its home and making its way to Australian soils with the first vines planted in the hunter valley by winemaker James Busby in 1832. This unique varietal thrives in warmer climes. Therefore making a distinct mark in famous wine regions of Hunter valley, Margeret River, and Clair Valley.
Adding another layer to the complexity of the Semillon, one of its major fault can be a blessing in disguise for some. The grapes of the Semillon vine as susceptible to what is classified as ‘nobel rot’. Once the Semillon becomes infested with this ‘rot’ the grapes take on another characteristic and become a sought after wine variety for sweet wine lovers.
So much variety in one grape variety. That’s why Walk the Wine loves Semillion.
Happy drinking, Walkers 🍇🍷😋

🇬🇧 Calabria is not just chilli but also good wine, do you agree?
I would like to start by saying that it is the second taste of this wine and that this time it has thrilled me to the point of saying that in the past it was badly conceived. Donna Giovanna Tenuta Izzolini IGT Calabria is a white from 2018.
It has shiny gold slowly descends into the glass identifying a good consistency, the nose suggests, worthy of the grape variety it represents, Greco bianco, a sampling of aromas, enhancing the dried apricot, white chocolate, Calabrian cedar, candied orange peel, yoghurt with wildflower honey, field wind, oregano scents of sage, mint in closure softened by a vanilla caress. A wine to try, on the enveloping palate with subtle and pleasant herbaceous notes, it confirms itself with a captivating warm-fresh balance. 14% alcohol and adequate freshness is a wine that will give satisfactions even in time to come, ad maiora semper!

I got to write a little piece for @countrystylemag about the amazing glamping experience being offered at Clover Hill Wines in Tasmania. I’ve been a huge fan of their sparkling wine for years, so it was incredible to have the opportunity to visit. No detail was overlooked - if there’s any possible way that you can attend some of the fab events they’ve got coming up, DO IT! Thanks so much to @glampingcotasmania@cloverhillwinestas and @sattlerandco ❤️🥂

Dinner at Vanilla Pod at Poplar Grove Winery is a must!
Having an experience @summerhillwine - this is inside.
The pyramid is a force! With stones imported from Egypt, copper, and a giant Quartz cluster in the middle of the ceiling, this place is very calming. Wish I could have stayed in here longer... They host yoga and crystal bowl shops there too! If you're in Kelowna this is a definite must see! ✨
Spent a sunny afternoon at @medlockames winery where everything is farmed organically and sustainably. Music wards off the boars, geese chase the flies, owls keep rodents away, and the barn door is authentically covered in holes where woodpeckers have stashed their grub. This gem is a beautiful reminder of how nature and humans can work together. I’ll drink to that.😋🍷
