It was early evening in the Catskills Forest Preserve and this lil’ Wood Turtle was lounging near my car. I improvised with ambient light from my headlights and stuck around until she lumbered back into the forest, safely away from the parking lot. Wood Turtles are included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List as a vulnerable species and in New York State are a species of special concern. Residing in both aquatic and terrestrial environments, they are particularly threatened by habitat loss and are collected as pets which greatly harms their fragile populations. Male #ReedBuntings usually establish breeding territories in the same area as the year before, but leave the nest building to the female reed bunting. The nests are usually low down in the vegetation, and eggs can be laid from early May onwards. If a predator stumbles near the nest, adults may feign injury in an attempt to draw them away from where the nest is hidden. Lately I have not had the camera in my hand as often as I would like, just felt a bit uninspired for so reason. Then I caught this shot and inspiration to tell a story comes back. Found this guy on a cold rainy day in Alaska looking for some food in the middle of a dirt field and I felt a bit of his struggle. Inspiration can come from unlikely sources some time.

Osprey in flight I watched this guy for about an hour trying to get a shot of it with a fish. I did see it successfully grab 2 fish from the lake but flew directly away from me, not towards me. The quest continues for that shot. This little baby had NO fear of people at all, I was so enjoying his company up and down the nature boardwalk at @gatorland_orlando but I soon saw why he was staying so close when an uneducated lady walking by threw him a hotdog.

A winter robin for this wintery weather (in the UK summer). Yes, yes it’s nice to have a change from the constant 30+ degree Singaporean weather, but this rain is getting a tad tedious. Yesterday’s spectacular beach and garden sunshine was a tease of what British summer should be: glorious.... but I suppose in true fashion it was shortlived
