31 Days of Horror
dir. Clive Barker
CLIVE BARKER IS THE SHIT. Books of Blood / Weaveworld / Nightbreed / Lord of Illusions... the list goes on. Barker's world of the Cenobites is expansive, sadistic, and absolutely terrifying. Whatever you do, do not solve the Lament Configuration. 😳
Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005) “Just like a bad horror movie, isn’t it?” Yes, that’s exactly what it’s like. I don’t even know what to say about this movie - it was bad. The acting was mostly atrocious, the CG was weird, the characters was just fucking annoying with the exception of maybe Chelsea and Jake sometimes, breaking the forth wall was done with a fucking wrecking ball driven by a blind child; never try to be relevant and self-aware if you’re just going to trip over it, Christ. Props to Lance Henriksen for being so enigmatic and honey-voiced despite what he was given to work with. LH and Doug Bradley doing a bunch of adults pretending to be teenagers dirty should have been vastly more enjoyable than this. Yeah, I liked the exposition part of the ending. Having Lance explain his revenge in black strap molasses dialogue almost made the rest of the film worthwhile. But don’t end a film five fucking times ok, it’s done, it’s over, just stop. Ugh ⚰️ #hellraiser#hellworld#scifihorror#hellraiserhellworld#hellraiser2005#lancehenriksen#dougbradley#pinhead#cenobites#2000shorror#2005#early00shorror#thelamentconfiguration (I’m nearly done I have one more to go)
Today is the anniversary of Hellraiser (1987)! .
Based on ‘The Hellbound Heart”, iconic movie was first released 32 years ago in the UK. Written and directed by original author Clive Barker, this introduced the horror movie world to the now infamous Pinhead and his Cenobites, denizens of the Labyrinth who are called forth by those who solve a simple puzzle box. .
I never used to care for this film too much when I was younger but with age I’ve gained a new appreciation for this and for its direct sequel. .
Today is also the sort-of anniversary of another Clive Barker based film; Candyman (1992) was first featured at Toronto International Film Festival on this day 27 years ago and was based on Barker’s short story ‘The Forbidden’. .
As iconic horror movie killers go, Candyman is one of my favourites and alongside Pinhead in Hellraiser and Dr Decker in Nightbreed (1990), cemented creator Clive Barker as one of the biggest and most enduring influences on the horror genre. .
As Pinhead puts it best “We will tear your soul apart!”. .
Pinhead/ Hell Priest
Who is he? Angel to some. Demon to others.
A lead character in the horror cult classic movie Hellraiser based on books by Clive Barker.
Articulate and intelligent, he is the leader of the Cenobites, humanoid creatures that dwell in a dark labyrinth realm or some variant of hell. Servant of Leviathan.
He and other Cenobites are conjured to Earth by way of a puzzle box called the Lament Configuration to satiate the inquisitive seeking pleasure and pain for those who open it. In the end, souls are collected and torn apart in the most delicious and painful of ways.
What’s your pleasure?

"The box. You opened it. We came."
It's been a couple of Hellish days (see what I did there) both temperature wise and mental health wise. But I still managed to finish this bad boy. It's my second time doing Lemarchand's box aka the Lament Configuration from Hellraiser. I almost made this one silver tbh cause the gold never dries gold. The silver would still look more metallic. But anywho. #hellraiser#Lemarchandsbox#thelamentconfiguration#woodburning#artsandcrafts#horror

The seasons long for each other, like men and women, in order that they may be cured of their excesses.
Spring, if it lingers more than a week beyond its span, starts to hunger for summer to end the days of perpetual promise. Summer in its turn soon begins to sweat for something to quench its heat, and the mellowest of autumns will tire of gentility at last, and ache for a quick sharp frost to kill its fruitfulness.
Even winter - the hardest season, the most implacable - dreams, as February creeps on, of the flame that will presently melt it away. Everything tires with time, and starts to seek some opposition, to save it from itself.
Had another read through of The Hellbound Heart today, Clive Barker is the GOAT.
