“The bottom line is, I don’t want to be normal,” said Caroline Marks. No need to worry about that. At 15, she was the youngest female ever to compete in the elite World Surf League, with well over a dozen national titles even before WSL named her 2018 Rookie of the Year. Now 17, Marks hopes to make history at the first-ever Olympic surfing competition in 2020, and her recent victory at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal contest (cash prize: $100,000) took her another step closer to that goal.
