SOOOoooo it’s been 9 years since I lived in Jasper (Alberta, Canada, The World, Milky Way, A Child’s Snow-globe at the End of a Weird Film), which was the last place I properly lived in Canada before I left to go see the UK’s last trees before they’re uprooted for a Gregg’s (I ain’t complaining, gimme that Veggie Bake). I did go back to Canada for 4 months a while ago but saw it starting to snow on a lovely spring day in May, and as I stood there staring at the grass, and having the grass stare back at me, both of us sighing, I knew I was the only one of us that could leave this sad state of affairs. So I did, bringing a blade of grass in my pocket back to London because I’m a nice person. Anyways the point is that I haven’t properly seen any of these so called insanely full on awe inspiring let me get my parchment and journal by candlelight about how the vistas touched me (consensually) views since Jasper, and girl, let me tell you, I have enough to write seven scrolls and have gone through seven pots of ink to prove it (all in my brain, writing hurts my hand too much). I’d forgotten what it could be, I didn’t even realize it’s potential at all until the top of Tin Hat Mountain towards the end of my hike; I was later told by one group of Canadians at the summit who are used to this luxury that through my eyes and my ‘baby deer that has just been born’ reactions they were inspired to re-appreciate what they were viewing. GUYS; there are so many trees here. And I don’t get it, why just looking at this stuff matters, I mean does any other animal trudge up mountains to simply look down where they came from? For pleasure? What even are we?! I’m okay with the fact that I’m sure all that birds and squirrels do is laugh at us for being the absolute strangest animal in the woods. Alas I finally re-understand what all my British friends who’ve moved here keep talking about, although a few less trees and a couple of Gregg’s would be nice too. #GREGGS#partriesfordays#treesfordays#theviewsthough#natureisspecial#letsallgooutside#mountains!
