We have several new board members this year and it’s about time we started to introduce them as they have done an amazing job integrating into YHS and we are so thankful to have them. First up is Francesca Manzella (volunteer coordinator): Francesca is a neuroscience graduate student studying how steroid hormones work as anesthetic drugs in the brain. Outside the lab, she spends her evenings doing yoga and cooking tasty Italian food. When more time permits, she attempts to travel around the world. Thanks for all you do Francesca! #volunteer#executiveboard#womeninstem#science
Quantum Computing - A Simple Explanation
Classical computers are inherently deterministic — they yield the same result every time. But quantum computers do not behave in a similar fashion. Measuring the qubit itself is a probabilistic estimation as qubits are in a state of superposition. Also the decoherence is one of the challenges that collapse the superpositioned qubit to a classical state that cannot be pre-determined. As a result, same results are not recorded every time — one receives multiple answers once for each trial. Hence the same experiment is tried several times and the most probable outcome is considered as the solution.
Particularly with optimization problems, a definitive correct solution doesn’t exist and hence an optimized solution though not the most perfect one, is also accepted.
Where Are We?
One of the challenges that lie ahead of us in the field of Quantum computing is the ability to have systems that are fault tolerant. Decoherence is a major drawback to the quantum systems as qubits collapse into a classical state after a very small time period. Quantum Error Correction mechanisms are being created to help build systems such that the qubit information is encoded in multiple physical qubits. Till Quantum Supremacy evolves we will live in an era of NISQ — Noisy intermediate-scale quantum systems
Would you like to become a GEOLOGIST someday? This Saturday our grades 1-3 will get a head start with us by observing actual rocks and minerals from around the world. Students will get up-close and personal with different soil types by examining them under the microscope! You will also discover amazing things soil can do, learn how to make your own soil and (we hope you’re not squeamish!) build your own Worm Spa to take home!
Today I dive into the properties of gases to finish up the series on states of matter.
When it comes to chem... we get it in!

"New chemistry app ""AR VR Molecules Editor "" - #chemistry#AR#VR#cardboard#iOS#andriod https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ar-vr-molecules-editor/id1287093721 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vspaces.molb&hl=en ""AR VR Molecules Editor"" allows one to build and manipulate 3D molecular models of organic and inorganic compounds in VR Cardboard. This is a valuable tool for chemistry students for learning about molecular bonding with the aid of VR visualization. The app is designed for high school or college students taking chemistry courses. All molecules are 3D objects and one very efficient way to learn more and deeper about atoms and bonds is by VR and AR. Augmented reality is one way to make connections from the abstract to the real world. Are you looking for an app that allows students to construct molecules in VR and AR? ""AR VR Molecules Editor"" is a very effective app for this purpose as it allows organic and inorganic molecular structures to be built with single, double and triple bonds, as well as cyclic compounds. The molecules can be visualized in 3D using stick, ball and stick and space-filling (CPK) models. FEATURES: • Building molecule models of any organic or inorganic compound using most of periodic table elements in VR. • Support of single, double and triple bonds. • Building molecule models of cyclic compounds. • Visualization of Wireframe style, Stick style, Ball and Stick, Spacefill (CPK) models. • A interface using augmented reality (AR) to visualize molecular structures. Play ""AR VR Molecules Editor"" - it is fun, cool and educational. #samsung#vrglasses#googlecardboard#gearvr#3dglasses#3d#小名浜100年vr体験会#stem#molecules#chem#eduapp#teachers#student#science#lab#college#scienceiscool#tech#geeklife#instachemistry#chemists#cute"
In fact, research suggests that having kids can actually cause things to go south!
I hear a lot of people say things like, “well, maybe he’ll be kinder to me once we have a baby,” or “maybe if we get married, my partner will become more commmitted and loyal.”
It doesn’t work this way. People don’t change for the better because of diamond rings or kids...people change because they put forth effort to change. Effort is the key here. Practice makes close to perfect.
It actually takes about 6 years for couples to reach out for help when they’re distressed. At that point, a great deal of damage has already been done.
Start working on your relationship now. Have difficult conversations. If you could use some help, find a couple therapist in your area that provides Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy or Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. These two therapies have strong scientific support and may improve your relationship.
Let me know if you have any questions below. I’m happy to expand on these ideas/therapeutic modalities if people are curious.
The New Dinosaurs: The Balaclav! 😲
By Dougal Dixon
The New Dinosaurs: An Alternative Evolution is a 1988 speculative evolution book written by Scottish geologist Dougal Dixon and illustrated by several illustrators including Amanda Barlow, Peter Barrett, John Butler, Jeane Colville, Anthony Duke, Andy Farmer, Lee Gibbons, Steve Holden, Philip Hood, Martin Knowelden, Sean Milne, Denys Ovenden and Joyce Tuhill. The book also features a foreword by Desmond Morris. The New Dinosaurs explores a hypothetical alternate Earth, complete with animals and ecosystems, where the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event never occurred, leaving non-avian dinosaurs and other Mesozoic animals an additional 65 million years to evolve and adapt over the course of the Cenozoic to the present day.
The New Dinosaurs is Dixon's second work on speculative evolution, following After Man (1981), which explored the animals of a hypothetical world 50 million years in the future where humanity had gone extinct. After Man used a fictional setting and hypothetical animals to explain the natural processes behind evolution whilst The New Dinosaurs uses its own fictional setting and hypothetical wildlife to explain the concept of zoogeography and biogeographic realms.

Quanto a retenção hídrica, o mecanismo é o seguinte:
