A wonderful sighting of two young male Lions having a drink at our watering hole just below the house. We have had a high number of female lion cubs born across the Lewa & Borana Conservancy this year, which is an extremely positive sign for further growth of our Lion population. 🦁

And it also happens to be the most trafficked animal in the world... the #pangolin is going #extinct due to high demand for pointless Chinese medicine 😞.. take a minute and get to know these little beauties and perhaps help #spreadtheword maybe, just maybe it will #makeadifference #savethepangolin #endangeredspecies #endangeredanimals #poachers #stopchina #chinesemedicine #vietnam #africa

An old man walking the beach one morning after a storm, saw in the distance a young lady throwing starfish into the ocean. The old man asked "Young lady, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" "The sun is up and the tide is going out, if I don't they will die," she said. "But young lady, there are many miles of beach and thousands of starfish, you cannot possibly make a difference." The young lady listened politely, bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean. "It made a difference for that one!

The belief that WE cannot make a difference is a limiting construct born from a limited awareness.

To expand our awareness is to expand our entire being, and therefore our power to influence that which we perceive as outside of ourselves.

The subjective mind may only percieve itself, and so, this enchanting creature is no more than an enchanting reflection of ourSelves!

We may not be able to go to the beach and throw starfish back into the ocean, but we can support the people who do:

@africanpangolinconservation

We're not saving the Pangolin, we're saving ourSelves. It may be too late to save this precious soul, but there are still thousands of Pangolin we can save!

1 million R10 donations - the countdown has begun.

Go to www.africanpangolin.org and donate just R10 / $1 using the reference: 1mR10

Thanks for saving me, and shot for looking! @maverick_gareth

Wildlife Poachers In Kenya Could Face The Death Penalty

Last year, Kenya announced that it would set the death penalty as punishment for #illegalpoaching. Now, the government is trying to fast-track the law into passing.

Last year, the Kenyan government announced a bold proposition to protect its vulnerable wildlife: using the death penalty against illegal #poachers. Now, according to News 360, lawmakers are aiming to fast-track the passing of this legislation.

The current law in Kenya makes it illegal to kill endangered animals in the country. In addition, the 2013 Wildlife Conservation Act also carries a life sentence or $200,000 fine against illegal poachers. But these legislative efforts have not been enough. “This [fining and life sentence] has not been deterrence enough to curb poaching,” said Najib Balala, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for its Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

The decision to set the death penalty as punishment for illegal poaching is a controversial one that has invited both praise and criticism against the Kenyan government. The move has also drawn the ire of the #UnitedNations, which opposes the death penalty for all crimes and has been pushing for the phasing-out of capital punishment worldwide.

Kenya has a highly diverse wildlife population and is home to a number of beloved yet often killed animals, such as giraffes, cheetahs, rhinoceros, and elephants, with the latter two animals the most threatened because of their desired horns and tusks among poachers.

The good news is that poaching has seen a big decline in Kenya, largely due to increased conservation efforts and law enforcement initiatives. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, rhinoceros poaching in Kenya has declined by 85 percent compared to 2013 while elephant poaching has dwindled by 78 percent.

However, Kenya’s beloved wildlife does remain in danger.

We all love the tiger, or at least I do... •

In 2016, for the first time after a constant decline, the population of tigers was on the rise. Nevertheless, the largest cat species is still vulnerable to extinction. Over the last century, the number of wild tigers has fallen by 95 percent. 95%! This needs to stop. Although in 1947 the Russians made it illegal to poach the tiger, nothing stopped.

Our 5th Conservation Ranger Course for internationals is just over.
A warm welcome to our new volunteers, there's a lot to do and their help will make the difference!

More pictures of the course will follow in the next days, meanwhile please notice the notepads: becoming a Conservation Ranger means to understand the environment and how to safely interact with it before any consideration of criminal acts.

The prison administration has asked the Department of Prison Management (DoPM) in Kathmandu, Nepal to pardon 36 rhino poachers and wildlife smugglers stating that the cases related to wildlife poaching and smuggling are not included on the list of “non-pardonable offences” as per the Criminal and Civil Code. The federal government of Nepal grants pardon to prisoners on the occasion of Republic Day and other historic national days. This is reserved for those who have served more than half of his/her sentence.
.
Nepal is a developing country, all the concentration of the government is towards the development of villages, making of roads and all other infrastructure development. There are very few and ineffective laws for these hunters and poachers which will lead to extinction of wild habitat very soon.

Zakouma Park, Chad, Africa. The park lost 95% of its elephants to poachers, now they are making a comeback because of the good work @africanparks is doing. Zakouma Park is about as remote as you can get took over 14 hours to get here from the main city N’DJamena by car. Our Driver on the game drive was trying to temp this wild elephant, by pouring water out of a bottle, Not sure that was a good idea. @stevewinterphoto @zakouma_national_park ⠀⠀

Today while heading in from our first trip we ran over this net and this was a sight we never wished to have ran into. Not only illegally netting but leaving the net in killing many many fish and potentially injuring boat drivers. Officials were notified on the situation.
