Are you a Coach or a Personal Trainer? And is there a difference?
From my perspective there is a world of difference between the 2 and potential clients need to be able to understand these differences so they can make informed decisions regarding their preferred health and wellness journey.
This is particularly important here in #PhnomPenh because currently there is not a governing authority or standard for either personal trainer or coaching. Many of the gyms here will affix this label to any of the staff that demonstrates an above average physique and general exercise knowledge. This typically means the barrier for entry is quite low
For me a Personal Trainer, understands enough about the human body to get a result
That is, they know how to impose a level of stress that helps a client lose fat, increase strength, or improve in something that matters to the client. They typically start with just one tool in the bag. If they're a powerlifter, they will have all their clients work with a barbell. If they're a CrossFitter, all of their clients are going to do box jumps, kettlebell swings and Olympic lifts. If they're a bodybuilder, all of their clients will get lots of muscle-isolation work with dumbbells and machines.
On the other hand, a coach tries to identify the holistic approach for improvement. They look at the root cause, if a client says they want to lose fat then that is typically tied to a perception of self or lack of confidence. They employ an entire tool kit to tackle the problem, it’s not just move more eat less. It could be how’s your sleep, what about stress, etc.
