Today is a VERY exciting day 🎉 On one of Corey and I’s first dates I asked him what his dream job would be. He told me his ultimate goal is to work for a major oil and gas/energy company. The man knows more about that industry than I could fathom. It’s his passion!! Fast-forward two years, and today is the first day of Corey’s dream job!! Today he starts with one of the world’s largest oil companies!! This man has worked his butt off for this opportunity. I’m beyond proud of him and cannot wait to see the great things he accomplishes! I am thrilled to share that I have accepted the newly created role of Massachusetts Development and Partnerships Manager at @generationcitizen! I am so excited to join our smart, passionate, and dynamic team, leading our work across Massachusetts in fund development, advocacy and policy, and strategic partnerships.
Founded in 2008, GC is a game-changing national organization redefining the way civics is taught in our schools. We work in several states across our nation, including New York, California, Texas, and Massachusetts. Our innovative #ActionCivics curriculum rightfully puts the power and tools in the hands of our children and youth to transform their communities across the United States. We are at a dangerous crossroads in our country and organizations like GC are the antidote.
Here in the Commonwealth, GC co-chairs the Massachusetts Civic Learning Coalition and was crucial in the passage of the new civic education law last year, mandating that all 8th grade and high school students learn civics. To quote Arielle Jennings, our Massachusetts Executive Director and my partner in good trouble, “We are in a moment in our country when young people are seeing the power of their voices and are eager to participate in the civic process...this law ensures they have real-world civic education opportunities that teach them not only the knowledge but the skills necessary to participate in our democracy.”
In many ways, GC speaks to the values that I’ve always lived my life by. I was 13-years-old when I got my start in community organizing, fundraising, and activism. There were many adults who mentored and uplifted me. I see myself in all of the young people we seek to inspire through Action Civics. This is an excellent opportunity for me, and I’m honored to be joining a fast-paced organization that’ll utilize and continue to help sharpen my strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills. I’m looking forward to starting next week!
