First time trying float therapy, aka sensory deprivation tank. This tank was filled with 10” of water, warmed to the temperature of your skin, and 1000lbs of Epsom Salt. It is completely back inside and void of any outside sounds, I could only hear my breathe.
Most people I talked to about this said they could never because they are claustrophobic and would panic. I will say, if you start thinking that way, you can definitely freak yourself out. That’s what happened to me about 15 or so minutes in. I almost opened the tank for a minute to calm myself down. Instead, I sat up for just a second, took a few deep breaths, and then sunk back into relaxation mode.
I went into the tank with the hopes of having some quiet time to focus on a couple of things. Instead, I felt like I could not focus, my mind would bounce around from thought to thought and I instead just focused on letting go. No need to try to control anything.
All of my muscles completely relaxed and I would drift in and out of sleep. Usually a muscle would twitch and wake me up. And then the sound came on to tell me my session was coming to an end.
I think that I would like to try this again, with no expectations. Let my body and mind relax. Know that I am safe, nothing bad is going to happen to me. It is not often at all that you get a whole hour + to have absolutely no distractions at all.
Anyone else have experience in a float tank? I’d love to hear how your experience(s) went.
