Spider-Man 3 marks the end of Sam Raimi’s Spider-man saga which is a shame. I remember as a kid I heard there was going to be a Spider-Man 4 and I actually shat myself I was so excited… But nope. This is the end. Spider-Man 3, a half-assed rush job that nobody wanted except goddamn Ari Arad.
This sequel is very strange. It’s like they mixed a good movie with a bad one. What made the last two films so good was their focus on the personal side of Peter Parker and how he deals with being Spider-man. And to some extent, this movie has a little bit of that. Parker is faced with a best friend who wants him dead and Tony Star… I mean Uncle Ben’s real killer is out and about and on the loose. Simultaneously Peter has to battle Harry Osborn and finish their arc together that’s been gradually building up through the movies, except hardly any focus is actually put onto this story except for a quick Rubber CGI sequence, a delicious hand-to-hand fight and a friendly team-up/death at the end. Then with Uncle Ben’s killer aka Sandman, through the assistance of the venom symbiote, Peter tries to murder the man to then realise that’s wrong and he shouldn’t have, then forgive Sandman at the end for some reason. I don’t know. Both of these things could have definitely worked if they were fleshed out more, but they weren’t and stayed undeveloped and boring.
Then there’s Eddie Brock, Venom and Gwen Stacy. The three things forced into the film in a horrible jealousy fuelled love triangle. Venom’s motivations are literally ‘he exposed my illegal photography meaning he should die’. Very complex and engaging right? So Venom teams up with Sandman to murder Spider-Man in this enjoyable but ugly final action sequence. Basically, the whole movie is a muddled mess of multiple stories that are half complete. Some of the stories resemble some good, such as Sandman’s personal story with his daughter, Uncle Ben and his creation into Sandman but is so clearly missing a huge chunk of story meaning he kind of just sits on the side-lines… (continued->)

Eai galera, tudo bem??
(Ps. Johnny é inocente, bjs)
