Discovered this lovely Willow Wreath commemorating WW1 during a hike around Epsom Downs today.
The wreath is made of willow and cradled on 11 logs to represent the 11th Hour of the 11th day. People have written messages of gratitude and respect and hung them on the wreath to honour those that bravely fought in the war. Really lovely to read.
There's also a commemorative trail highlighting the fascinating role Langley Vale Wood played in preparing the troops for battle, and how the local community contributed to the war effort. Very moving.
It's all part of the Woodland Trust's Month of Remembrance at England’s First World War Centenary Wood in Langley Vale, Epsom, Surrey.
Definitely worth a visit.
This photo was taken 3.5ish years ago and defines a time in my life I began to feel the most ‘me’..
I had moved back to Bakersfield for my summer job and had been in a funk from recently going through a break up..
Work in the central valley gets very stressful and hectic during the summer time. I remember feeling extremely lost and overwhelmed with what life was throwing at me..
My co-worker and friend @ashmpryor kept pushing a backpacking trip and I didn’t know how we would make that happen with how busy we were at work.
This is always the case, but we took the time off anyway and I’m so glad we did..
In 3 days we hiked to Sykes Hot Springs in Los Padres National Forest near Big Sur, CA..
It was challenging yet rewarding and I will never forget the feeling of knowing I was right where I was supposed to be. I was okay with being alone, I was actually happy without needing anything or anyone..
I have recently been falling back into that funk but because of @ashley.linnane I got up this morning feeling inspired to follow through with her #iseemyselfchallenge
Love yourself and the rest will come 💕
Key things for me to sustain my balance:
Exercise is crucial to maintain and nurture vitality in my body temple. Secondly, hydration and proper nutrition to make sure all systems are operating on optimal level in the body and brain level. And lastly, mindful meditation whether you are still or in motion. Bringing awareness and presence to your day wherever it leads you!
