Did you ever raise your hand to volunteer for something before you even knew what it was for? ‘Pick me! Pick me! ‘ It is so nice to be chosen, isn’t it? And when the Son of God is doing the choosing, even better! The task for which we have been chosen as Christians can be daunting, for in order to bear lasting fruit we must remain connected to the vine. The Holy Vine!
When I look back on my life I can see that I have been most fruitful, most joyful, most at peace when my relationship with God has been at its best. Our connection with God provides all the nourishment and support we need to both do the good we should and withstand the trials we must. Detached from God we go it on our own, leaving us in want and need, and the fruit may be bitter and spoil easily. .
Thank you, Lord, for choosing us. May the fruit we bear be sweet and pleasing to you. Pray with me 🙏🏼
Rose-Colored Glasses and Magnifying Glasses
When we think and talk about what is wrong with everyone else, we are usually deceived about our own conduct. Jesus commanded that we not concern ourselves with what is wrong with others when we have so much wrong with ourselves (see Matthew 7:3-5). The Bible clearly tells us that when we judge others, we often judge them for things that we also do!
I once asked God why we would do something ourselves and think it was perfectly alright but judge someone else who does it. The Lord said, "Joyce, you look at yourself through rose-colored glasses, but you look at everyone else through a magnifying glass." It's true! We make excuses for our own behavior, but when someone else does the same thing we do, we are often merciless.
I encourage you to reverse the process, assume the best in others, but keep your own life under the magnifying glass. Allow God to deal with you first, and then you will learn the scriptural way of helping others grow.
Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, instead of examining the lives of others, I want You to help me examine my own life. I know that with Your help, I can correct the issues I have and find the proper way to help others grow as well. #joycemeyerdevotional#biblejournaling#daily#godlovesyou
