Beginning Wednesday the 16th of October at 6.30pm, a 6 week group workshop on managing anxiety and negative thought patterns with @rachelmchughpwp 
Dr Rachel Mc Hugh has completed a BSc Hons degree in Psychology, a MSc in Applied Psychology: Mental Health and Psychological Therapies, and a PhD in Psychology. 
She is a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner from 2015, working one to one with clients using CBT techniques. 
This involves talking therapy, anxiety/panic and depression management, OCD and phobia work, life coaching and guided self-help. 
Rachel is also heavily involved in mental health research and is working on a student wellbeing project at present with Ulster University and Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

This workshop is £6 per class.

Happy #TherapyThursday! Today we're featuring a helpful technique to ease anxiety, box breathing! Picture a box in front of you. As you move up the side of the box, take a deep breath in for 4 seconds. Next as you move along the top of the box, hold your breath for 4 seconds. Then as you move down the other side of the box, breath out for 4 seconds, and finally as you run along the bottom of the box hold for 4 seconds. Repeat. What does safe mean to you?

This can have a multitude of meanings: financial security, emotionally safe, free from physical harm.

Since my homelife as a child was  unstable and not safe, I tend to live in a perpetual state of Fight or Flight. I have to work hard to try to steady myself, find my footing, and try to live with peace in my heart and on my mind. It is a constant struggle.
When I am tired, stressed, overwhelmed I feel like I could fall off of a precipice at any moment- as if it's all being held by the thinnest string. And the slightest breeze will send me falling.
I remind myself that I chose to break the cycle with my family- and now I have to consciously choose to break the cycle of self-destruction and self-sabatoge.

Today, I remind myself that I am physically safe, emotionally safe and all is well. I am safe.

I had so much trouble sleeping last night....not entirely sure why.  BUT still woke up with my alarm and got some yoga/stretching and #deepbreathing in before my 7am meeting. I definitely feel more energetic when I don't press snooze even if I don't sleep well the night before! .

It’s pretty common knowledge now that deep breathing is a powerful tool to bring you into the moment.

It’s been used by countless goal kickers in their routines.
__
The @nzwarriors and @allblacks have been very public of how they have used deep breathing to be calm, clear, and in the moment.

Practicing deep breathing in a cold shower is an excellent way to see how it can bring you into the moment and away from your thoughts/emotion.
__
When you do this, overtime, you will notice that your attention moves into your breath and away from thoughts like “I can’t do this”, “I need to get out”, and the feeling of anxiety as being uncomfortable. 
__
It’s an amazing way to witness the power of breathing and how it can bring you into the moment.
__
It won’t happen straight away, and will take consistent practice. 
__
You can then use breathing to apply in a game, or anytime in your life, when you notice pressure/anxiety/negative thoughts arising.
__
Don’t force your breathing.
__
Just let your body breath naturally, and you will see the rhythm their is in deep breathing. It’s usually about 4 seconds in and 6 seconds out.

Breathing techniques and meditation practices!!!! Another amazing day yesterday training with @jaynenicholls on breath practice and meditation. 
With so much pressure and anxiety it made me think about our kids and how we can give them easy tools to achieve a calm mindful breath. 
All our kids at Young Yoga from age 4 through to teens are taught this easy method. 
Here’s Martha teaching us all how to finger breathe.
It really works!!! Try it xx 🌸🧘‍♀️🌼 1. Spread your hand and stretch your fingers out like a star. You can choose your left hand or your right hand. You you are going to focus on tracing around the outline of your hand and fingers.
Start at the bottom of your thumb and slide your finger up your thumb, pause at the top, and then slide your finger down the other side. Now slide your pointer up your second finger, pause, and slide down the other side. Continue tracing your fingers up, pause, and down. Slide your finger slowly, watch your finger move and notice how it feels. Keep going until you have finished tracing your fifth finger (pinky). 2. Now you are ready to add some breathing. Breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Remember to keep it slow and steady.
Place your pointer finger at the bottom of your thumb, and breathe in as you slide up. Breathe out as you slide down. Breathe in as you slide up your second finger, and breathe out as you slide down. 
3. Keep going until you have finished tracing your fingers and you have taken five slow breaths.

4. How does your body feel now? Do you feel calm or would you like to take another five?

I’m working on that worksheet I promised all of you. It will be a guide on how to talk to your partner or loved one about your trauma and some helpful questions to aid in exploration.

I wanted to share the first part I’m working on. This is just a sample of what you can say (or write) to your loved one when you want to explain how you’re feeling and take responsibility for what might happen when you are feeling activated.

Sometimes the past becomes very, very present when we’ve experienced trauma. Sometimes it causes us to act in ways that aren’t totally conducive to a healthy relationship. We may cry, scream, yell. None of it has anything to do with your relationship.

It’s important that you feel safe and that your loved one feels heard and equipped to help support you as well.

This is just a guide. You can change it up to fit your own experience. I hope it helps you start having these conversations.

I have never heard someone undersell #Meditation. Some changes you can make starting today that help you relieving stress without taking pills. Instead of spending your day miserable, here are some natural tips for dealing with stress: 📌 Find your stress source- It’s the first step you can really do something about it.
📌Take brain breaks-deep breaths- Simply breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold your breath while you count to 7, and exhale through your mouth for 8 counts.  Repeat 5 – 10x, or until you feel noticeably calmer.
📌 Supplement magnesium- Magnesium is known as the relaxation mineral.
📌Smile - It’s a sort of Pavlovian trick, where your body is so used to associating a smile with feelings of happiness that when it perceives a smile, it generates feelings of happiness. 📌 Listen to relaxing music
