I always rant on my spam account but I figure I would start posting here again.
Black people have HISTORICALLY had a “preference” for light skin that HAS BEEN rooted in antiblackness, self hate, and European beauty ideals. Colorism is deeply rooted in black culture and has been passed down in different forms for generations. It is fair to QUESTION when a black person says they have a preference for racially ambiguous or non black women, just to see where their head is at. 9/10 a “preference” is followed by a slew of insults toward dark skinned women, which is why people side eye the word “preference” now a days. To often, the word preference is misused to excuse people who are actually saying disrespectful ass shit. So in short, if your “preference” is rooted in generalizations and stereotypes based on someone’s skin tone, then you are a colorist, PERIOD.
Black men have no problem understanding racism. They have no problem understanding that if one has preconceived notions about someone’s personality because of there skin color, than it is racist. If someone said, “I don’t hire black people because they are loud and aggressive”, you could easily be like, “Hmmm, that’s racist”. Replace “black” with dark skinned and it’s FAIR GAME. Just because we are talking about the dating world does not mean you can make insulting generalizations based on skin color.
