Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Cabriolet Typ 14 (1957 - 1974)
After some news of the most recent monstrosity to emerge from Osnabrück, Germany (I am speaking of the most needless cars of the world, the T-ROC Convertible), I'd like to share one of their best and most famous cars: the Typ 14.
This is the first sportscoupé by VW, produced by Karmann in Osnabrück and designed with the help of Italian Ghia.
You wonder where the bore is? Its beneath everything you see. The Typ 14 is based on the VW Beetle, using its engines, its suspension, almost everything. The Typ 14 was introduced in 1955, firstly as a Coupé and in 1957 also as a Convertible, that has been 750 Deutsche Mark more expensive than the hardtop.
Like the Beetle, the Karmann Ghia Typ 14 had a RR layout and air cooled flat-4 gasoline engines. These ranged from the 30 PS 1.2 to the 54 PS 1600 L (1.6).
445.000 Typ 14 left the production line - of which 80.000 were convertibles.
Volkswagen do Brasil offered locally assembled cars (41.000 in total) and a special version, known as the Karmann Ghia TC, a more practical, liftback version. Furthermore, it is based on the VW Typ 3 (predecessor of the Passat) and also used its 1.6 flat-4.
Only look back to see how far you have come 🤗
Since moving back from New Zealand 🇳🇿 in April the months have flown by and things wernt settling into place as quickly ⏳ as I wanted them to 🙄. I had a vague plan that mainly involved my partner (who I came back for) and I living together as soon as possible ⏱. It’s hard enough sometimes to uproot and start all over again on your own, but trying to coordinate two lives doing this together makes it even harder! Both having to find new jobs in the same area, accommodation near public transport and our work etc. But when I look back at what has been achieved this year, it’s a reminder of how far we have come. Since January, I gained permanent residency in my soul home (New Zealand), got back to the UK in time for Kitties sisters wedding, had two awesome holidays with him in Austria and Norway, got engaged and we just bought this awesome little car 🚗 beep beep 🤗 next on the list .... a mortgage by Christmas 🎄
All of this was helped by my amazing family who are constant support for me and my life decisions. 💫✨🌟
