Happy Earth Day 🌎 “No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.” -David Attenborough
British Columbia (2017). I’ve been fortunate the past few years to visit places with delicate ecosystems and learn about how what we do affects them and the animals and plants that live in them. Hopefully we can pull it together and ensure these kinds of places are around for future generations to experience. #earthday#earthday2019#earthdayeveryday#robertscreek#robertscreekbc#britishcolumbia
HAPPY EARTH DAY 🌎
Today is a bitter sweet day as we celebrate this blue miracle that we call home. At Mason Jar Lids we try to focus on the positive change we can make instead of spreading fear about our changing planet. The thing is, knowledge is power. Sometimes we have to face hard truths to dedicate ourselves to real change.
Yesterday, while on vacation in Mesa Arizona, our family rented a boat to enjoy a day out on this stunning lake. As we were cruising the waters we quickly discovered there were thousands of dead fish floating on the surface. When we asked a local what was going on they told us that the rising water temperatures allow for algae blooms to thrive, eating up the oxygen in the water, in turn suffocating the life that call these waters home. Sadly, this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the devastation that is occurring around the world. The iconic Waikiki beach is expected to be underwater shortly due to rising sea levels. Coral reefs are disappearing due to rising water temperatures. Without that organic matter on the ocean floor methane gas is able to bubble up and is released into our atmosphere which has the potential to suffocate all life on earth. Our use of disposable plastic is still rampant. When plastic goes into our earth and waters it releases toxic chemicals as it breaks down, which devastates life, creating disease and death. Huffington post reported today that there are as many 150 species dying off around the world EVERY SINGLE DAY.
This is it. Our last chance to save this beautiful place we call home. It is up to us. We can no longer look to others to fix this. Even someone who is considered an expert is a student. It’s okay to fumble, it’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to admit we’ve made a huge mistake in the way we have treated this planet and each other. We are a resilient species and have survived many catastrophic events. It’s time to do it again.
Together We Can Change... EVERYTHING
With Love, Gratitude, and Hope
Being a photographer is having a hyper developed sense of vision. We see everything in terms of colors, shapes, negative spaces. Sometimes it can be overwhelming as I literally want to capture everything I see because it all looks interesting from the right angle. Blessed to live in a city like #vancouver where aesthetics are all around! Enjoy the last few posts, I will be featuring portraits for the month of May ✨😘 #lunazulfoto#blossoming#downtownvancouver
🌿We live on the lush, biodiverse West Coast of Canada, and while the evidence of climate change is minimal compared to other communities across the globe, it is still very much happening. ☀️🔥🌲Here in BC, bone dry summers and forest fires in April are not characteristic for us. 🌲💧⛰The rich, wild landscapes and loamy coastal rainforests—teeming with life—are what make this province special and unique. 👫👭👬Our hope is that the global community can find a way through this crisis to preserve what we have left. The responsibility does not rest with one single person, organization or government, but every citizen of this planet. 💪🏻If we work together, we can accomplish great things. 🌎 #HappyEarthDay
