Two years later, he does it again.

Maliki Bridges is the town’s hottest bartender.
He thinks I’m a spoiled rich girl.
I think he has a stick up his ass.
Once I’m old enough to drink, we become friends.
Nothing more ...

Until we become roommates.
It’s a bad idea, moving in with him, but any opportunity I get to be around him I’ll take.

THE HELP

The reason behind choosing HP for this month was that I wanted to reread it. I didn’t get to read all of it but I picked from where I last left off which covered the last 5-6 chapters. And it was awesome! I love the last chapter where Dumbledore finally meets Harry and replies to his queries with his own ambiguous answers. .
.
Harry Potter is an experience in itself.
Is it just me, or does YA seem to have more frequent first person narrators? My partner, who doesn't usually read YA, is reading the Grishaverse trilogy (because he read Six of Crows) and commented that the first person narration was weird. Im pretty used to seeing it in lots of YA, like this book, Neliem. I may have just gotten used to it with all the YA I read!
.
Books written in first person is today's #bookbookowlcreatures challenge! I couldn't quite figure out what the emoji part of the challenge even was a picture of... 😆

I had no words but just tears while reading this book and after I have still had no words to describe. It is far more than a brillant or wonderful novel. I also like the movie version much too but the book is something beyond the movie.

"For all those that have to fight for the respect that everyone else is given without question." -- N. K. Jemisin

Happiest of happy birthdays to this absolute SFF superstar! Jemisin's writing is a beautiful example of the power SFF has to not only lay bare the injustices of our world, but to dare to imagine a world without them. She wholly embodies the motto that led me to start this account in the first place: we cannot build what we cannot imagine.

She is an architect of the future. Her books force readers to recognize that injustices are not inherent to the world. They are human creations that require human solutions. We are not cogs in a cosmic machine coursing down a predetermined track. Humans designed these systems. We can design better ones.

Added fun fact: N. K. Jemisin was the first--and remains the only--person to win the Hugo Award for Best Novel 3 years in a row, one win for each of the books in the Broken Earth trilogy. Basically what I'm saying is if you haven't jumped head first into this series--or any of her other works--today would be an excellent day to start.
I’ve never done this colour combination before and I have no idea why because I LOOOOOOVE it 😍😍 and it matches this awesome sticker from @fableandblack so perfectly :) my mum also got her collection of scarfs down from the attic for autumn/winter so they’ll be showing up in my photos again 😍 all in all, a good day :)

A história é extremamente divertida e me arrancou boas risadas.
⠀

🎸🌕DAISY JONES & THE SIX🌕🎸
.
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
.

As soon as I read the characters names of Bitches of Everafter, I was immediately turned off. “Punzie”? 🤢 apparently I am not a fan of obvious fairytale retellings. And I do mean OBVIOUS.

Anyway, I haven’t been reading much. Still only halfway through YOU but I can say - I’ve been severely downsizing my physical books. I went from around 450 to 211 😱. Do you read on any form of e-reader or are you strictly physical?

Voto: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. Buona lettura! 📚📚

Nome: Outlander - A Viajante do Tempo
Autor: Diana Gabaldon
Editora: @editoraarqueiro
.
Q: Fictional Dragons or Wyverns? Which do you prefer?
A: I cant choose! I love dragons because of chinese myths behind it, but I also love Wyverns because of Drogon in Game of Thrones. 🥰❤Arggghhh it's hard!!! 😭😱 I'm sick today and not feeling well 🤧🤧🤧, but something made my day! My @foxandwit box came and I was able to unbox it! 🥰❤ I have to say, i really love the bookmark that they've included in this box. It looks like a library card but a note/quote keeper. 🥰❤ In addition, I really love the book Stronger than a Bronze Dragon. It has been a while since I've indulged my self in an Asian inspired book. 🐍

today i’m throwing it back to a book i loved as a kid - how the trollusk got his hat, by @mercer_mayer. i can still hear my dad reading this to me when i turn the pages. this book tells the hilarious story of how reggie mcleod lost his hat, tried to find it, and made an unlikely friend along the way. mercer mayer’s illustrations (as always) are detailed and whimsical, and the story line weaves together humor and kindness. his creativity and originality are what make his books classics to me. .

Blurb: All hope was lost until Zoey Hennessy walked back into my world, shaking it up beyond repair when she uttered two simple words.

He’s alive.

She speaks of her brother, my Saint, the man who lost everything to set me free.

I believed he was dead. I saw it with my own two eyes. But when Zoey proves he’s alive and being held captive by a monster, I know what I have to do.

It’s time I saved him.

The plan is dangerous, and there are no guarantees I will survive. But if this nightmare has taught me one thing, it’s that I don’t cower in fear. I am a woman hell-bent on getting back the man she loves, and nothing, no one will stand in my way.

However, what I uncover can only be described as hell on earth. The darkness has finally won, and Saint is lost to me forever.

Or so I thought.

Aleksei Popov is anything but a hero, yet in this story—he’s mine. Everything I believed in is about to be turned upside down, and with freedom within my grasp, I wonder how far I will go, and who I will sacrifice in order to set myself free.

I thrive on literary conversation--don't you? Writers deride critics as talentless leeches but I'm greedy. From the stage, to the page, an on screen there are few things more exciting than reading, talking, creating, conversing, processing, reimagining and surviving on words. Whether it's chick lit or online articles on your passion, the key component for me is our shared enjoyment in life sustaining language

Earning in local currency meant I couldn't justify my lit magazine/journal subscriptions and I no longer had access to libraries or bookstores that would have them. They offer a reading experience in which I feel more in touch with the editor/s than in books. I am more conscious of the hands that brought visual artists, poets, short story writers, novelists, academics together to take you out of yourself and into their worlds. To astonish, impress, amuse, to make me whimper, yearn, to shock, to provoke think, to connect. All this and more in individual issues that cannot be replicated.

I haven't finished this one. I'm not in a rush. I never get tired of re-reading Nazik al-Mala'ika's "And We Still Have the Sea" translated by Emily Drunsta. Perhaps it's not strange that, for short fiction, Najwa Binshatwan's "The Government Sea" translated by Spencer Scoville felt the strangest yet was one with which I most connected? It made me rush to post this. A beginning that left me a bit unmoored, a middle I zipped into--the Jamaican govt is eager to bar us from the coast too--then an ending that shocked me out of any notion of relatability. •
When literature is discussed universality--even one now founded in specificity--tends to be emphasised. What we have in common. What we can relate to. That's always been true. But what about strangeness? Not presented in obvious science fictional settings but in reality? Here is something you have never experienced before. What will you do with it? How will it change you?

I will be sharing more about my lit journals and art magazine reads here because there are so many other good conversations happening. And if fiction gets you excited, consider @arablitorg (my pic source).
