Crested Terns have very long wings. When this one took flight we weren’t able to catch the whole bird - so decided to crop even closer to make a portrait. This was taken on the sandbar just inside the mouth of Currumbin Creek on the Gold Coast.
One of the locals of Lucky Bay, dropping by to say G'Day! I wasn't really a bird lover before we ventured on our big lap, but by the end of it, after being introduced to the dinosaur-like brolgas; seeing the magnificent size of wedged-tail eagles in Cape York whose wing spans were as long as our car; witnessing the spectacular colours of different parrots; discovering a breed of Kookaburra that doesn't laugh and meeting these beauties, the Osprey's of Western Australia - I can't help but have a new appreciation and fondness for the winged marvels of Australia. #birdsofaustralia#osprey#westernaustralia
