One-Tusk Elephant Cow__1 . This face is telling a Life-Story. Roughly she might be in her 50ies, and missing her second tusk. . The African Elephant can live up to 70 years in the wild. The truth, however, is that few reach that age. According to a 2008 study published in the journal Science, African elephants live a median of 56 years in the wild. The shorter life span is due to poaching or illegal hunting for ivory or other uses, destruction of habitat and drought. It’s up to us humans to protect their lives! . #africanelephant #elephants #elephantsareamazing #elephantlove #elephantlife #africansafari #bushlife #africanbushtrails #africanbush #africanbushtrails #africanwildlifephotograhy #wildlifephotographer #wildlifephotography #capturethewild #africanwildlife #wildafrica #wildlife #wildlife_perfection #wildlifeperfection #wildlifeplanet #amazingafricanwildlife #awesomewildlife #greengrammers #earthisfabulous #africageophoto #natgeowild #Africananimals #bestwildlife #wildlifeplanet #Africanamazing @natgeowild @natgeoimagecollection @natgeowild_africa @africanamazing

The African Savannah is so incredible, that all the geography books you read as a kid come vividly to life. My first experience was in Tanzania a few years back, and when I went aimlessly wandering in Uganda - it was pretty much the same. The short spaced out trees, the unkept grassland, the random animals you encounter. Quite a sight. If you haven’t been to Africa, have that on your list. Don’t be afraid to go there !. If you have, what’s been the most amazing story ? . - Somewhere in Uganda . - #Uganda #savannah #grassland #Africa #loveafrica #blue #sky #yellow #fields #backpacking #gorilla #wanderlust #travel #travelgram #landscape #photography #instaphoto #africageographic #africageophoto #tanzania

Ethiopia is one of the most unique countries in the world. Its always been a #religiousplace and now a popular tourist and pilgrimage site. Especially striking is that its made up of some 80 plus ethnic groups that love together in reasonable harmony. Here is an Amheric woman gathering firewood in a park in Addis Ababa. This is the famous De La Porte female that has become famous because of her special hunting technique she perfected at this specific watering hole. In the drier times of the year she knows that surface water is limited and she then comes to this water hole where she goes into hiding. Once a herd of impala move in and have a peaceful drink, she charges is in in an attempt to frighten the Impala and usually 1 or 2 slip on the concrete and fall into the water where she then jumps right in and fetches her meal... here she came in for a quick drink before going into hiding... . . . #leopard #leopards #leopardsofinstagram #loveleopards #africa #southafrica #krugerpark #krugernationalpark #natgeoyourshot #africageographic #bigcats #photography #wildlifephotography #canon #canonphoto #naturegram #wildlife_perfection #instawild #catsofinstagram #earthcapture #safari #photosafari #wildafrica #bbcearth #makalaligamereserve #thisissouthafrica #big_shotz #travel #africageophoto

The horizon was filled with Zebra laughter. Distant calls spoke back & forth telling others the path was clear of danger. In between calls, splashing water & turning rocks added a backing track to the tune of the day. This was Okaukeujo at its best. The sun gave off a harsh light but it did not ruin a thing, Black & white was all I saw. No golden light was needed here, the gathered dazzle of zebras made sure of that. They were the star of this show. Being colour blind would not have been a disadvantage, the landscape and zebras had been rid of all its hues. Etosha was bare at the best of times, but this monochrome scene was far from that, the landscape had motion. Hundreds of zebras drank before me, this was a scene I had seen before but one that always has me returning, everywhere you looked there was something to be seen & savoured. Zebras really are amazing & fascinating creatures. Like a fire I was drawn to the life that was unfolding before me. Heads would go down for long periods at a time before briefly appearing again. A cackle here, a scuttle there, but overall a relaxed scene played out before me. The scene was black & white. The absence of colour made me study the Zebras features closer & appreciate their sheer numbers. No matter how long I stared, I could not drink in enough of this, these lines had mesmerised me. The distant Zebra calls was all I heard. Everything was at peace. Under a tree a lone jackal rose. He stretched & considered if it was worth while to step out into the sun. He had obviously just risen from a mid morning slumber. A slow yawn followed, then he stepped forward. As soon as the sun caressed his tawny head a zebra took notice, there was no call just a sudden shift in position. The startling jolt sent shock waves through the drinking dazzle & the serene scene broke into chaos. Water rose as hooves were set in motion & the landscape came alive. Each Zebra bolted to what they though was safety, little did they know there was nothing to run from. As the marauding pack looked around at what had set off the chain reaction, all they could see was a lone jackal bobbing towards the now murky waters edge.

This hermit crab had, for reasons known only unto himself, climbed all the way to the highest point on Aldabra in order to just... sort of... sit there. Granted, Aldas highest point is only 8 metres above sea level and is a sand dune, but still a mighty trek if youre only a couple of centimetres long. I rarely use filters, but I honestly could not decide if I should go #nofilter on this one or not. It just looks so cool with a bunch of them. In the end, though, I decided to keep it real. This leopard, one of the first I ever got to see properly in the wild, is still one of my favorites. I hope she still wanders the roads of Kruger, her lithe and powerful body slipping through the tall grass silently as she goes about her day as one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. • • • • • #southafrica #meetsouthafrica @krugernationalpark @igerssouthafrica @outdoorphotomag @wildlifephotographicmag #femalenaturephotographycom #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nature #naturelovers #naturelover #conservation #bigcats #leopard #catsofinstagram #lukimbi #kruger #knp #sanparks #canon #natgeo #yourshot #africageophoto

Mama bat and her baby snuggling in the rafters at Skukuza. Ive met many people who dont like bats. Im really not sure why they feel that way. I think these guys are adorable and sweet. But I guess Im partial to all animals. I would love to change peoples perceptions and misconceptions about these truly special creatures. After all, as pollinators and pest controllers, they provide a valuable service to the planet. So maybe next time a bat whizzes by in the night, instead of cursing or criticizing it, thank it. #africageophoto

A lucky find on my way home. We found her lounging on the side of a dam, waiting for mom, who was likely out hunting for dinner. She quickly dashed into the bush when she saw us, but a little patience on our part paid off when she peeked her head out to say hello. #africageophoto
