Tina Chow was an actress, sculptor, model and Jewelry designer who was known to be an influential fashion icon during the 1970s and 1980s. After her marriage to Michael Chow, she became an AIDS activist.
I first came across her when I was looking through Andy Warhol’s Polaroids and I was completely drawn to her makeup and her features. As I did more research on her and her photographs, I found that she has her own iconic look, smoky eyes with red lips. Which inspired me to create this makeup look.
Very little has been written about her and the life she led. But from what I’ve read about her life was that she lived a glamorous sociable life for a very long time but decided to change her lifestyle to less extravagant and began making her own art and became an activist.
She was very unconventional, due to her identity and life, she struggle between being neither Western nor Eastern and neither masculine nor feminine. But she knew how to embrace these struggles and turning them into her strong points instead.
When it came to recreating her iconic makeup look, even her style of makeup was different compared to the other supermodels. She knew her face well and knew what make-up look which her suit her facial features and what enhances her them.
Tina Chow lost her life to Aids in 1992 while still continuing to work with Aids organisations. From a supermodel to a activist, she was light and an inspiration to many people.
